It amazes me how scholars and historians can attribute the origin of something to anything but the truth stated in the Bible. The medical symbol is called the Rod of Aslepius, probably a Greek physician who through myth and legend became deified and worshipped as a Greek god of healing. Are you kidding me? Why not go to Numbers chapter twenty-one where you’ll find the account of the children of Israel complaining and rebelling against God. As a result God sent serpents which bit the people and many died. The children of Israel repented, Moses interceded to God for them and was instructed to make a brass serpent and wrap it around a pole. He was told to lift up the serpent on the pole and all those who had been bitten were healed when they looked at it. This was symbolism at its best as well, because it showed forth things to come, when Jesus himself would be lifted up and those who looked to him would be healed of their broken relationship with the Father.
Not only won’t they give credit where credit is due (well, I did read a small blurb stating the biblical account as an alternative view), but somewhere along the way they even confused the symbol with that of Caudecus, a Greek god which according to myth had nothing at all to do with healing. 
In fact, it appears he dealt with the occult and the symbol is even sold in occult and witchcraft stores. Medical organizations have incorrectly adopted this symbol without researching its origin. Besides, since when can the truth of anything be based upon a myth. After all, a myth is really something someone made up to explain a cultural practice or natural phenomenon. One of the definitions of the word myth (from the dictionary) is: a fictitious person or story, an unproven or false belief.
The Bible says you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. The truth is, Jesus is the way , the truth and the life. In him we live, move, and have our being. He doesn’t just want us to be alive, he wants us to have life and enjoy life. (John 10:10 Amplified). Just as there are myths about the medical symbol, there is misinformation and misinterpretation of the Bible as well. I encourage you not just to take someone’s word;
