Psalm 91 Series: A Place of Rest

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked. (AMPC)

Put a pin mark on that last phase “reward” of the wicked”. It needs to be rightly divided.

The secret place of the Most High is a place of complete rest. Rest does not mean inactivity. It means only following His direction. It is only in that place where you will witness destruction all around and not flinch, knowing – (in my M.C. Hammer voice) – “Can’t touch this!”

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Philippians 1:6 KJV

A place of rest is not a place of arrogance, but rather of confidence. If what you are currently experiencing is not a “good work” then God is not finished. We all agree that the corona virus, COVID-19, is not a good work. There will be glory after this! Such is the case in every storm, for the believer. All things work together for good to them that love God…

Now, back to that “reward of the wicked” thing. Many a believer has misrepresented God the Father as an angry God who is judging us when bad things occur. The reason evil occurs in the earth is due to the earth’s fallen state. It dates all the way back to Adam, who gave the entire planet over to Satan. We tell people Jesus loves you, but He will get you if you don’t “get right”. Who wants to serve a bully God?

Remember David, the author of Psalm 91, was a Jew. They were the only ones in their day to have a covenant with God. Everyone else was wicked because they knew not the God of Abraham, nor the Law.

God poured every ounce of His wrath on Jesus Christ when He died on the cross. For God to pour His wrath on you means Jesus died for nothing. Thank God He died, to redeem us from the law and to usher into the dispensation of Grace. Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound!

The debt is paid. It is finished. Now rest in Him.
