The Gospel

What is the Gospel? The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been defined as many things. Some call it the “Salvation ” message… “You must be born again.”  But that’s not the only message in the Bible. If that were the case, then we would only need what we call the four gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  The Bible actually contains God’s blueprint, or plan for mankind.

11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.   Jeremiah 29:11.

God only wants us to have what is good, not evil. Think about the Sunday School definition of “The Gospel”. We know that the Gospel means “good news”. Well then, what is news?  It is a recounting or telling of events that have already occurred. So when a minister is “preaching the Gospel”, he or she is supposed to be reporting the good news of what God planned for man all along and how His plan became available to us. Telling me I’m going to hell is not good news. In fact, if I’m a sinner, I probably already know that. Tell me what’s in it for me. Why be saved in the first place. Is it just for a good feeling on Sundays? I felt pretty good sinning everyday too!

Tell me the good news; the fact that I don’t have to be poor, broke, busted and disgusted. Tell me I don’t have to participate in this worlds poor economy; that I can be blessed in spite of what’s going on around me. Give me principles and precepts to follow so that I can begin living life abundantly rather than having life live me. That’s a Gospel worth hearing!
