Which God is True?

“And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God…” 1Kings 18:24 (KJV)

Every since the fall of man, people have been in search of the true and living God. Some have gone so far as to tailor a god to their liking, to fit their lifestyle and way of thinking. There have been men, flesh and bone  like us, that have exalted themselves as gods to others. Many have followed them, some even to the death; and others are still being led astray. People want to believe in a higher power, something greater than themselves. The very fact that you’re reading this blog, leads me to believe that you believe in the true and living God. Jehovah, whose Son is Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit being the third part of the Trinity. If not, keep reading anyway. How do we know our God is the true and living God? What evidence is there to support our claim? Why can’t it be Mohammad, or Buddha, or Harry Chrisna, or some other god? This is not the first time this question has been asked. When the prophet Elisha asked the people who had forsaken God, they couldn’t answer. They were torn between their idol worship and God Almighty. Elisha set up a little experiment which resulted in a resounding answer. He gave them a chance to call on the name of their god (eight hundred fifty prophets of false gods). They carried on and on until they were hoarse and started mutilating themselves. All the while the man of God kept teasing them. “Maybe Baal’s asleep, or he went to the bathroom.” Call him a little louder!  Once they finished their futile wailing, Elisha called on the name of the Lord who answered. That’s the key point. Not that he answered by fire, but that he answered.

Only a true and living God can speak to your spirit causing you to know what to do when moments before you had no idea what to do. Only the true and living God can answer your prayer with precisely what you need at the time you need it, then turn around and bless you with more than you could have imagined. Only the true and living God can bring you comfort and peace when turmoil can be seen all around you. Only the true and living God can produce a one hundred eighty degree turn in your life where everyone around you can see the evidence of change.

If you’re one of those still torn between two opinions, put my God to the test. You’ve tried yours long enough with limited, if any, results. Call on the name of my God, and when He answers, let Him be God.
