“And God blessed them; and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion,,,” Genesis 1:28
When we pray what we call “The Lord’s Prayer”, which is really the prayer Jesus taught his disciples, we say”thy kingdom come, thy will be done…” What does that really mean? The only way to accurately interpret what is meant by the kingdom coming is to go to the book of beginnings, Genesis. God created man in his image, both male and female and he placed them in the garden of Eden to dress and to keep it. He then blessed them, which means he gave them an empowerment to prosper. After the ability was placed on them, God gave them some instructions. He told them to be fruitful, multiply, replenish, subdue, and dominate. It was much more than just a command to re-populate the earth. God had placed an image of himself in the earth, put his likeness in charge and told him to operate the earth just like God operated heaven.
Adam and Eve were to be fruitful. They were to be very productive with purpose in their lives. Not just living day to day with no vision.
This couple was tasked with multiplying. Not just procreating, but introducing their offspring to their Father and instilling in them the keys to a prosperous relationship with him.
Replenish the planet, said the Lord their God. They were to fill and complete the work God began. They were not just given everything on a “silver platter”, they were partners with God the Father.
The earth was theirs to subdue; to conquer by force; to master; to beat down if necessary.
Finally, they were to dominate the planet. This union was given complete and absolute authority in the earth; that included the animals; EVERYTHING!!
Satan stole the power and authority they had by causing them to disobey God when they ate of the forbidden fruit. That was the reason Jesus came into the world; to reclaim what rightfully belonged to mankind in the first place. Now we as believers strive toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. We have been reequipped to operate the Kingdom of God here on earth. So when we pray “thy kingdom come”, we are declaring by faith, God’s original intent. We are fruitful, we multiply, we replenish, we subdue, we dominate!
