Conjunction Junction

Go ahead and say it. “…what’s your function. Hooking up words and phrases and clauses.”  If you don’t know to that I am referring, ask somebody about those old “School House Rock” videos that came on between cartoons on Saturday mornings some years ago.  I still remember those short clips and my nieces and nephews find it so funny when we put in the DVD and all of us adults can sing each song word for word. The song about conjunctions talked about the connectors– and, but and or. These words hook up phrases and clauses and depending on how they are placed, a conclusion can be made about the sentence.   For the purposes of our time now, let’s talk about “but“. This conjunction is used in the phrase “Not this, but that”. The word “but” joins two opposing ideas. It cancels out the previous statement leaving only the latter phrase pertinent.

There are many things God has made available for us in this life, however, sometimes our “buts” get in the way. These  are our excuses for not following his instructions out of fear and/or unbelief.

God says go talk to this person about a job. “But they’re not hiring Lord.”  God’s promised you healing.    “But the doctor says I’m going to die.”

God says to forgive someone that did you wrong.” But Lord, I don’t want to forgive them. I want you to get them!

Get Your “But” Out Of The Way!

Lets stop cancelling out what God has said with our “buts” and flip the script on the devil.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth them out of them all.   Psalms 34:19

But  my God shall supply all you need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.    Philippians 4:19

But none of these things move me… Acts 20:24a

But they that wait upon the Lord Shall renew their strength…Isaiah 40:31

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was wounded for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes, we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Okay, I couldn’t resist it. Have Fun!
